This is the first time I am rebuilding a trim cylinder for MerCruiser. Does anyone know what spanner tool works for removing the end caps? Also, are there any tricks or hints available?

Thanks

I rebuilt mine. I didnt use a spanner wrench or anything. I put the cap in a vise with little pressure and with minimal effort it unscrewed. Very easy to do. I

Thanks....I placed the cylinder in a vise but the cap was frozen. I don't have the leverage to move without the correct tool. What tool did you use?

Thanks again.

The seal kits for my 97 Bravo say to use Trim Cylinder Spanner Wrench (91-74951) My dad has one and it's worked on all the Bravo and Alphas he's done. It worked well on mine.

Re: Building Trim Cylinder

I Put the cap in the vise and a wooden hammer handle though the top opening where the other rubber bushings would go. It unscrewed like butter. I've done alot of these rebuilds and I have never had one I could get off this way. Did you put the cylinder in the vise or just the cap area? I just turned it upside down and put the 1/2in of cap showing into the vise and unscrewed the entire casing then.
