i have a 17 foot CENTER CONSOLE 1986 bonito. i want to take the motor off the back and build up the transom so that its straight across and even with the rest of the boat and use an outboard bracket such as those by gil or stainless marine... could anybody tell me and good or bad things about doing such an item. the water/waves sure do com up into the splashwell pretty easy now and ive always like boats with brackets that also double as swim platforms, plus wouldnt it increase performance?

If you seal everything right, build it strong, it sounds like a really good idea to me. I can't think of any downsides except for a potential in odd handling, but I am sure that can be overcome.

ya I did the same thing because the motor i have is long and boat was designed for a short plus I thought if I had the boat loaded down it would be too close for comfort. rather than tell you the story take a look at my post on "transom build opinion needed" and it will tell what i did. I too am curious to hear the opinions of what i did but not many people repling, someone said add a piece of wood before I glass the inner side and so im gonna be on the safe side, but Ill tell ya that thing seems pretty damn strong but then again that poly will just crack too good luck :)
