Bunk brackets

Hi,

I have a trailer that is 41" wide frame to frame. What I want to do is install bunks that will give it a wider base so I can just drive my boat right onto the trailer. Currently I'm unable to do that because the bunks currently on it aren't far enough apart.

So I'm thinking if I can attach bunks to the outside edges of the frames it will give me a wide enough base. The difficulty I'm having is finding bunk brackets that will angle away from the center of the trailer. I want to extend the 41" wide base using bunks to 52". At 52" the bunks should just hang slightly over the wheel wells by about 3" on each side.

My trailer does not have any cross bars going from one side of the trailer to the other. Is there anything out there that I can use to achieve what I'm looking for? Thanks.

Re: Bunk brackets

We haven't talked about type of boat, size of boat, etc............

From what you are describing I would say that you're not going to find it because you're trying to do some not engineered for your trailer.

Get a different trailer.......

I have a box of bunk brackets for a rolco trailer I no longer own that would work for you. They are pieces of allthread that use a piece of pipe welded to the frame, and adjust up and down using nuts on each side of the pipe. To install at an angle you would make a bracket to put the pipe in at an angle.

You can buy these right from rolco or I'd love to sell mine. I have no use for them anymore.

Can you post some pics online so I can get a better idea of it?

To answer the first response post I bought what is essentially a canoe trailer to use for an inflatable yacht tender. It sort of works right now but there is no bottom support for the pontoons and that's basically what I'm trying to do.

The tender is 52" wide while the trailer is only 41" wide from the sides of the frame. It's about 54" wide out to the wheel wells. Right now the pontoons hover over the edge where the wheel wells are. What I want to do is mount bunks to the frame and extend them out to about 48" so they'd offer bottom support to the pontoons.

It's not the right trailer but there were very specific reasons why I chose to go with this particular trailer. I figured so long as I can add side bunks then it will work perfectly fine. It's like I said I've figured out how to get the dinghy onto the trailer just fine I'd just like to have the bottom support and be able to drive my dinghy right up onto the trailer which I can't do right now.
