Bunk Spray - Liquid Rollers????

changed rollers over to carpeted bunks for my "new" 1982 18' Starcraft Mariner. Everything I read on this site said bunks are better for aluminum & I understand why. Anyone ever try the bunk spray? I've been doing some fall Delaware bay Striper fishing & have to really dump the trailer (into salt water) to get boat off & on. I have to down to the fenders. Does the spray help the boat slide off easier? I regrease the buddy bearings each time when I arrive at the ramp before I launch boat.
I have to say this site is a great source for information with some really smart and creative people. Thanks to the people who help with ideas.

Hate to admit it but still a virgin for the fall run, several run off's but no fish in boat yet. Hoping to christen it this weekend.

I too have heard it works well (but no real experience with it). We use to always spray the bunks down with wd40 (or a similiar product) and it made a difference. Just throwing out a cheeper (although from what I've heard, it doesn't work as well as liquid rollers) option for you.:D

I don't know if this is relevant, but my bunk trailer has Teflon strips on it. Seems to work on my fiberglass boat.

So, if what you have ain't working, change it up!

There is another member on here that put the teflon strips on topof his bunks. Worked so well he lost the boat on the ramp before it got to the water. It was a fiberglass boat, but should work just as well on the aluminum...

Maybe buy a can of silicone lubricant to spray on bunks, probably similar to the Liquid Rollers at a better price. Just don't remove your bow/winch line until you're really ready to launch...I've heard of boats sliding off the trailers while backing down the ramp with slicky stuff on bunks!..not good! Good Luck!

The bunk slides are only to be used on fiberglass hulls. The spray stuff would be the way to go.
WD-40 is not a good idea either...leaves an oil slick on the water...

Silicon spray from wally world. Works great. DO NOT loosen the bow line before backing the trailer!!!

I have been using the West Marine bunk spray for several years. One can lasts a whole season. My boat is very heavy and this stuff makes launching and retrieving a breeze. I spray the bunks every second or third trip. Also keeps from wearing out the carpet. Good luck.

All of these advertised "bunk sprays" are bunk..... it is just silicone which is available just about anywhere.

Word of caution..... you will slide FAST depending on how much you use.

Are you sure of that? Not trying to be confrontational, but I put them on the trailer for my aluminum boat this summer, and if it said that, I missed it. Where did you get your information from?

Thanks,

Hey 18 Starcraft, I'm right around the corner from you in Westville. If you have keel rollers still, maybe the bunks are set too high? As far as the stripers, if you are chunking, leave the rods with chunks on locked up in the rod holders. With heads, let em run. I go out of Higbees Marina on my little boat(Throwback) and have been doing well this season. Good luck to ya!
