Isreal has a system that the Pentagon tested to kill RPG's. The result was 98% effective in stopping the RPG. Why isn't it being deployed by the Army? MONEY.

If the article is correct this doesn't compute for me.

It burned me up too, and that is why I posted the link.

One system available now and 98% effective. The other system is being developed ($70,000,000) and won't be available until 2011, if then.

As stated in the article, they hove no relatives over there so there is no need for the defense now.

A classic example of why we need serious oversight to be happening now.

If there were congressional hearings on this, with respondents testifying under oath, we might find out what the truth really is.

It is sad that our country is being led by a bunch of crooked lawyers.

I think murder charges could be justified.

This is getting a lot of play on MSNBC.

Statements claiming preferential treatment given to some contractors.

Questions as to why the system isn't being considered.

Looks interesting.

It looks like this might not be dead yet as indicated by the following C & P.

Recently, the Senate entered the fray and in what congressional officials say was a slap at the Army, ordered Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to put together a new, independent evaluation of all RPG defense systems, foreign and domestic.

its mostly cause the profit aint there.
its very similar to the CIWS system. the CIWS base 1 block0 I am intimatly familiar with. the swedish goal keeeper of the same era was 1/2 the cost and twice the weapon. but GD needed the profits. CIWS stands for, Captain It Wont Shoot.
I found most whiz bang weapons produced by our military/industrial complex tend no either fail to whiz or bang.

With what just happened in the israel lebanon conflict

The israel forces takeing heavy losses from RPG and other anti-tank wepons i would ask why they did not use it ?

If this whiz / bang stuff really works it should have been very easy to shoot down at least some of the thousands of katyusha rockets fired on them also ?

I worked with US whizbangery. I found most of it works in the lab but its mostly a dog and poney show for congress.
most I worked with did not work in real life tests.
in the 91 conflict we gave the isrealies some patriot batteries, they reverse enginered them and pointed out some very serious software flaws and a simple solution. the US said NAAAAAHHHH aint no way. we got hit due to the flaw and they did not.
the reason I know of this flaw is the search/track processer on the patriot is very similar to the search/track processor on the block 15 CIWS system.
its what I did for a living for some years.
my rating is not called the elite of the fleet for nothing.
and I have been retired, medically, for some years. but I still stay in contact with some of my class/ship mates.

Lets face it Tommays, nobody wants to respond to the question of why Israel did not employ them on their own vehicles. They lost several tanks to RPGS and were quite surprised.

Years ago Ford was given a contract over General Dynamics for the DIVAD system. The GD system out performed Fords in several key areas. Tests showed GD clearly had the better product. The contract went to Ford due to political manipulations.
It was covered years ago in "Atlantic Monthly" magazine.
