Never knew much of Burl Ives. Did he have a voice.

And The Shadows, great sound, and what a stage show !

And every now and then you need a little Mungo, to remind you that music, and life, should be fun.

Burl Ives was a folk singer. Always as soft as falling leaves. "Lavender Blue" was a favorite of mine.

The CDs in my vehicle player right now are:

The best of Nat Cole
The best of Dean Martin
The best of John Denver
Martin Denny
Alfred Apaka
Leon Redbone

Why Worry?

I love Dire Straits. They are probably best known for their Rock parody "Money for Nothing", but their music is nothing like that at all. A mix of Swing, ballads and a little New Orleans thrown in to keep it interesting. :D

Ah yes, Cole.

I remember watch him in a few of his movies from the 40's ? or 50's ? when I was young.
Then found a few records in the house after granddad passed back in the 70's.
I still have them somewhere, gonna have to dig them out and give them a spin.

Burl Ives is the narrator and singer of "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer" TV show. Still a favorite at Christmas time!

Back when I was in the Navy and single one of my rules was to dance at least one slow dance with someone I had my eye on to a Patsy Cline song. By the end of the song I knew how my evening would end and if it was worth investing in another drink for her.:)

Well, I guess I'm looking for artists who's work has endured at least 50 years of scrutiny.

Artists that may not be so well known to anyone under 50 years of age.

Ones that defined a genre, or style of play, or had a near perfect mastery of their craft.

If you are looking for "yesteryear" classics, then look no further than the Sons of the Pioneers:

Sons of the Pioneers - good times :)

Add a little Bing Crosby in there too guys. The crooners were a lot of fun!

Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong ...
