I have an 87, OMC Seadrive, 1.6L. It was rebuilt 2 years ago after it overheated. The powerhead rebuild was quality, but the remainder was done on the cheap. The original wiring harness was re-used, and an assortment of used Johnson and evinrude electronic components were installed. Ever since the rebuild I normally get from 3 to 8 hours of engine run time before the coils and the powerpack on the starboard side fail. After the first set failed, and the engine rebuilder told me his 6 month warranty applied only to the powerhead. I replaced Stator, rectifier, both power packs and all 4 coils with the proper OMC replacement parts. After the second set of coils and a powerpack failed, l took it to my local OMC mechanic. He has seen the engine twice, each time to replace these components. I installed the current set which has once again burned out.

What can be causing this problem?
