Well i bought a boat not long ago. First time out in it i made the noob mistake of not charging the batteries so had no trolling motor. so anxiously charged them before i left out the next time. Now i should have made more inspections before just taking people for their word. But im trolling along a lake here in louisiana and i notice smoke starting to come from the handle of my trolling motor so i instantly shut it off. cranked up went back to our pier at the cabin we were staying. I start inspecting. and the trolling motor is wired as 24v's but its a 12v trolling motor. So i idle'd back out from the pier and trolling motor was only working in speed 2 and 5..there was nothing on 1,3,4. So i quit using the trolling motor the rest of that weekend. Now i took it off the boat. And inside the head unit of the trolling motor. There is a white wire that is burnt and melted. Is the trolling motor screwed or is it possibly good and i got lucky and shut it off in time and only have some wiring problem that needs to be fixed? I have since rewired it at 12v even when i trolled out and only got 2,5 speed. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. By the way it is a Minn Kota Riptide 55# thrust...tiller handle. Thanks,Jerry
