I saw discussion on TV a few nights ago. The Bush proponents totally missed an oportunity to hail the chief(unless I missed it). Even though I'm not one of them, I'll give kudos to him for this:
From the NYTimes
"Bush Plans Vast Protected Sea Area in Hawaii

By ANDREW C. REVKIN
Published: June 15, 2006

President Bush will create the world's largest protected marine area today, designating as a national monument a 1,200-mile-long chain of small Hawaiian islands and surrounding waters and reefs that are home to a spectacular array of sea life, senior administration officials said last night."

Job well done, big guy.

According to environmentalists, this is the biggest thing since Teddy Roosevelt began our National Parks. Must not be any oil down there. ;)

Meaningless (or next to it), compared to the rest of his chores. And he has some catching-up to do, given all the interference from the Sierra club et al.
Speaking of whom, I'll bet, iether ignore this issue , or fight it tooth and nail, like they are currently doing with his brother, Jeb here in Florida over the aquisition of 85,000 acres of pristine central Florida for a preserve.
Ruthless group, in the same vein as PETA.

Think maybe he is trying to make some points now that there is an election coming up? By the way, here is a link that you can look up and see if any of your favorite national forest in your state is up for sale. Most likely will be some faves their, sure is some good in our state.

http://www.fs.fed.us/land/staff/rural_schools.shtml
