I had an offer of a free boat 2 hours away - thought it would be worth it for the trailer so I got it.

I'm going to gut the boat and see what it looks like. I was thinking of either junking the boat, or making a tiller style lake boat out of it. Looks like a similar project to what OhioLowell has been posting.

The title says the boat is a home made 1963. I wanted to get some opinions on the hull design, to help me decide if it's worth working on. The bottom seems rather wide in comparison to the top rails. Seems like an inefficient design, but stable platform.

If I keep it, I will mostly be using it on lakes and reservoirs around here that are electric motor only, with an occassional 5-10HP(or maybe 20) tiller on the back.

You got what you paid for!

Seriously, i know nothing, just love looking at other people's disaster projects! hey, at worst you can sell the trailer for a few $$ maybe or find some useable parts to sell.

maybe it's a great hull and you can make a boat out of it.

Work on it...or the Javelin Johnson would fetch a LOT of bucks in pieces and sold on ebay

i think for less $500 you could have a fishing boat. the floor is probably rotten, but the hull looks like it may have 2x4's for stringers, if any. may just be blocking under the floor. it was probably registered homemade due to the lack on a hull number. if the glass is in decent shape, a good pressure washing and some paint could look ok. the hull designed is perfect for a stable fishing platform. you even have the windshield, ( i might be interested in it) looks like an old johnson, late 50's, possible could get it running.

The motor fires, but needs carb cleaned and rebuilt. I'm going to sell the motor and controls. The windshield is broken.

This is going to be a practice project for me. I'm going to take the top off, gut it out, and see what I have. I might just junk it, or make a little fishing boat. I will keep the thread updated as my child ridden life allows.

I appreciate the comments.

It's a 35HP motor, about the same as what you're looking at. I will email you if you still want the motor info.

I'd say you have the makings of a nice project there, except for that Johnny Javelin 35. It's a piece of junk. Send it to me and I will dispose of it for you. 8)8)

It says Evinrude Javelin, but wouldn't they be one in the same?

Well, if you are going to make a fishing boat out of that old classic, I am seriously interested in the navagation light on the front deck, steering wheel and pole light at the stern.

Send me a private message or email me at mjmullen4 at yahoo dot com.

Nice find!

It already has a place to mount a kicker motor. That's cool. Hard to tell if that's the integral transom/splashwell or something just made of plywood. Like previously said, the floor is probably rotten. The trailer looks like it needs a lot less work than mine. Cool boat, but then engine is a disappointment. I normally charge a fee to dispose of those but since you're relatively new here I should cut you some slack. You gotta watch JB. He's generally up to no good and regarded as an unsavory character despite his facade of wisdom and helpfulness. 8)

The motor appears to be an RJ E 18E, 1956 30HP with electric start and lots of compression.
