I believe I'll become quite familiar with commodity prices in my golden years. I'll have lots of time to reflect on them too while I'm picking up aluminum cans along the roadside.

I agree that stock in companies in metals are at a low point in the last 15-20 years, but not an "all time" low.

On the other hand many metals are near all time highs. Gold is at $975, Silver at $14. Silver did hit $30 back in the early 80s during an attempt to corner the market, but has been in the $5-$8 range since then.

Glad they don't make boats out of that stuff. :)

"Commodity" prices have influence on end product. You're seeing it-2009-10. Metal, of any kind, is at an all time low...................................

That's not true. Metal prices have not dropped in the past 2 years. Being in the machine shop biz I can tell you none of the metals I purchase on a regular basis, brass, aluminum, steel or stainless steel have fallen at all.

Gold hit at all-time high of $850 on Jan 21st 1980. Adjusted for inflation, gold would need to be at $2200.

Even taking a 1980 average price and adjusting for inflation, it would need to be at $1400 now.

Sure, gold has done well over the last 2 years, but it still hasn't come back up to what it was at 29 years ago.

Thank g-d fiberglass isn't a metal Hah. They can make all they want. They just stopped laying it on thick on boats.

Fiberglass the miracle material.

Agreed. However if my memory serves me correctly, which is not so often these days, but did the Hunt brothers not attempted to corner the silver market in the late 70's ?
