:confused:Hello Everyone, I am in the process of buying a 1976 18' Steury model X180 jet, it has a 200 HP Evinrude outboard engine. The motor sounds strong and starts right up the head gaskets have been replaced about a year ago and has great compression. The boat itself is in good shape for the age, sure there is some wear but nothing that a little TLC can't fix. I have tried to look up the boat on the internet but can't find anything out about this boat, can anyone help me out? I just never heard of a Steury before and this being my first boat any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank You all! Wally Belvidere, IL.:)

Re: Buying 1st Boat (help!)

Hi Wally, it seems that Steury information is really scarce. I have a 1973 Steury catalog and it has the X180 as the center page photo. There is a side bar with all the specs on both the inboard jet model with a 455 v8 engine and the outboard motor model. I did note that in 1973 the max outboard hp is 165hp.
However that could have been changed by 1976. If your interested I can send photos of the pages to your email if you want to PM me with your email address. That boat looks like it should really move, too bad they didn't give the top speeds in the catalog info. I'm sure you will have fun with it. .......... Richard

PS....You probably already know, but Steury boats were made in Goshen, Indiana from about 1956 to 1980 when the company was sold and then shut down. The offices and buildings are still there and it looks like they are being used by someone as warehouse space.
