Re: buying a 15hp outboard

Insist that the seller start the outboard so you can hear it run FIRST before
you buy. Take the cover off and while it is running and look for water leaks.
Make sure it is pumping water also,...this can be done in a test tank of some kind or on a set of muffs. Check out the motor's overall condition. Also, open the lower unit oil vent plug and check the condition of the lower unit oil. If
it looks milky, there are lower unit seals to replace or the vent and drain/fill
plugs may just need new seals. If the seller refuses to start the motor so you can hear it run yourself, look elsewhere.

Re: buying a 15hp outboard

Thanks, it's about as good as a 56 year old motor is going to be, but I've just had a lot of tire kickers on it. I'm only asking $395 which I think is fair but I might have to lower it a little.
