Hello All, I am looking at buying a 1974 Reinell 2210 Cuddy Caboin with hard top, it has a 188 Mercruiser 5.0L. has hydraulic trim tabs and auto bilge pump and dual batts. with switch.. Buy what I am asking is, what should I look for on this specific boat to be potential problems? It is in the water at marina and the owner is taking me for a ride on it, he said top speed is 35mph and cruising is 25. Is that about right?

Thanks for any and all help.

Top speed sounds a tad slow for a V8 but a 22' is a big boat and I don't think the 188 Merc is a real powerhouse. Could be sped up some with a prob change. Sounds like a cool boat with the hard top. Your main concern on a boat that old is going to be rot. Make sure it has a solid deck and transom. As boats typically rot from the bottom up....any soft spots on the floor are unacceptable. Usually by the time the deck goes, the underlying structure is all mush. This is repairable but it's a MAJOR project. So check it out carefully.
