Okay, I have researched and researched Hewescraft boat(s), as well as other like brands, Duckworth, Wooldridge, Alumaweld, Gregor, North River, Sea Ark and NorthWest. My overall honest opinion, is that all the boats I listed are great, and most likely originated from a single manufacturer.

Obviously, my research is very limited because I live in St. Louis, MO, where we have no dealers of the deep-V models built in the North West. So, I have to rely on websites, testimonials, and conversations with dealerships for guidance.

I have a list I made, that narrows down my choice of boat manufacturers that I feel satisfy my requirements. What I'd like to ask is for people's personal opinions (unbiased), as to which manufacturer/model (preferably 20' or 22') they would recommend based on personal experience (riding in a boat), or through the grapevine - sort of speak?

Here's my guidelines, or usage for this boat:
1. Mississippi and Missouri River Big Catfishing. (anchor and fish off the back - rod holders) (80% of use)
2. Recreational Use, buzzing around, sunbathing with the lady friends, piddling around, possibly inner tubing. (15%)
3. Bass, Crappie and Trout Fishing (5%)

Also, I plan to get a 150 hp motor, and the minimum being 115 hp, depending on model and having extra people in the boat. What brand would you recommend? I know this is like asking who likes Chevy, Ford, etc.... but I use to have a Yamaha on my old boat 6 years ago, and really liked Yamaha. But, I have been reading on the Evinrude E-Tec and wouldn't mind giving them a go? Any thoughts?

Also, would you recommend the bench seats, or not? One or Two? I do like all the roominess I can get in a boat, and hate to feel cramped, or like I am tripping over everything.

And Remember, this is the boat I want, based on the type of fishing here on the big Rivers. In fact, I'll probably get stopped a lot because of the unique design and functionality of these boats because I've never seen one around here like em, except for LUND and LOWE. Which I think have a lot of extras I don't want, and they're riveted.

I have attached a few pictures of the type of boat I am looking at.

In advance, thank you for your insight, and recommendations. I hope to be another proud boat owner soon!

I live in the Northwest (Oregon) and did a lot of research on the boats that you mentioned in your post Hewescraft,Duckworth,Alumaweld etc. before deciding on my current boat - a 20ft ThunderJet 115hp O/B (out of E Washington)

IMHO The Hewescraft looked very utilitarian, too much so for me. The Duckworth was slightly pricey, and the finish was terrible. I was not happy with the Duckworth design as getting into the bow section meant a huge step up (no locker to step on). I contemplated getting the Intruder from Alumaweld, but again this was pricey. I ended up getting the ThunderJet as you get much more for your money, and the finish was so much better. Also the dealer was great to deal with.

Just my two cents worth- but good luck with your search

Three nice boats. IMO, the Alumicraft with the motor extended behind the stern will be problematic when bringing a fish on board from the back. Bench seats will get in the way more and restrict mobility when fishing. I consider Yamaha to be a great motor. That being said, my neighbor bought an E-TEC two years ago. He was not happy at first. Through some research and talking to a few people with knowledge of the E-TEC, he determined the set-up wasn't right. With some adjustments and a different prop, he said the change was amazing. He is extremely happy with the power, the quiet operation the fuel economy and the reliability.
Good luck with your new ride.

I researched the same boats two years ago. None are sold here in Florida, so all I had to go on was web sites. I ordered and bought an Alumaweld sight unseen from a dealer 1500 miles from home. It is a much heavier gauge aluminum than the Gregor. When I saw the boat, I was more than pleased. Great fit and finish. It is a lifetime boat. My only complaint was that it took them too long to build the thing after I put my money down.

bench seats are very restricting. pedestal seats can be removed when not needed. i like the gregor set up, as you have the opportunity to move seats around where you want them.
