Buying a Boat...

I found a great deal on an older Checkmate (15 foot). The problem is the seller doesn't have any paperwork for the boat. However, he does have paperwork for some other boat on his yard. He is willing to "sell" me the title and vin tag on that boat (Not the Checkmate).
What do you guys think? Buy the Checkmate and deal with the headache myself OR use the title from the other boat???

I think you are looking at conspiracy to commit fraud if you plan to use the other boat's info to register it.

Yeah, you're probably right. It's best to do it the correct way.

titling an untitled boat can be a huge hassle. sometimes it's not. varies state to state and clerk to clerk.

It depends where you are at. Kansas doesn't title boats - so I can only provide a bill of sale to a buyer.

while you can probably get by just fine with the wrong papers, you wouldnt be able to sell it and might be in trouble if you get a full check by police or coast guard. talk to dmv about procedure.
