Re: Buying a new 135--Optimax or Ficht????

ctarpontime, I would hope someone who has a little knowledge about the new Ficht motors reply or comment on your post. I have a 91' Johnson 150 and have had great success with it, but the fact is I won't a new one and I'm confused about all the hype on the new style motors. Before my OMC I had a 86' Mercury 150 and it was a nightmare. Hope we get some answers. Thanks.

Re: Buying a new 135--Optimax or Ficht????

I cant coment on opti except to say the real big numbers of motors have just been geting out on the water the last three years ,these kind of numbers where out there with fitch since 1998 . there are some 98 fitch motors out there with mega hours on the but they have been updated early in there life and the rpm profile looks like a smiley face meaning very low time in the middle of the rpm range these motors like idling and more so wide open throttle .better than half the real problem motors i have worked on most of the problems have been caused by certified tech,s that realy don,t have any buisness under the hood of these things . some thing as simple as changing spark plugs gets a indexing proceses and if not done rite the motor suffers if your shop is too cheap to buy a laptop computer they will have a hard time even installing one of these motors properly let alone working on one .but what do i think of a fitch motor ? well let me put it this way im not a person with alot of money and when i heard the old omc was going under i scratched up the cash to buy a new 115 fitch 2001 and im verry hapy with it the bomb/evienrude seems to be geting better all the time evienrude just increased thier warenty to three years i just hope they can keep under qualified tech,s out from under the hood some times especialy up north here the big dealers sell alot of product but in the sumer they have alot of part time help that can cause big problems . Just my opinion good luck whatever way you go!

In my area we hav some optimax motors that have 2000 hours up. biggest problem has been a broken alternator belt. Some of the ficht motors have been in the workshop longer than on the water. oen ficht 7 monyhs old 4 months getting fixed.

I haven't seen any major problems with the 2000 or later FICHT motors. Bombardier even made them better and since the 2002 models came out, there hasn't been a negative post about them anywhere in a number of newsgroups.

The 2002's, especially with the FULL three year warranties, have been doing well in the field. If you read the magazine tests, they are usually faster, better accelerating, and get better milage at the same speeds as the 4 strokes. Not only that, the 225 even has fewer total emissions than the 4 strokes.

I have a 2001 250hp ficht. Only have about 75 hours, 0 problems, extremely stingy on oil and gas. So far I love the engine.

Dave
