Looking at a boat with a rebuit 150 Evinrude. The owner has used the motor 3 times since and says it runs fine. As a first time boat owner what are some things to look for in a visual lookover.
Should i get a compression check (how much). What motor parts need to be examined? Any suggestions could only be helpful. With this said, the motor is on a 91 Tidecraft Wildfire, average wear, couple rips in seats, with I believe dual axle trailer. Price $2750. What do you think?

This is my $.02
Sometimes when an engine fails the owner will have it rebuilt with out finding out what caused the failure in the first place. Therefore the engine is on track to fail again. Ask him why the engine was rebuilt and what was done to correct the problem. Additionally run all the checks that the pros here recommend.

Mac

P.S. I am not familiar with that particular hull but if you can get on the water with a boat motor & trailer for that kind of $ it could be a great deal.

a pro i'm not, but also look for soft spots in floor! could show signs of many $ leaving your pocket. if the floor is soft you would have to think about any wood under it being bad (as in roten)
