I'm looking at a 1975 boat with a 90hp Chrysler OB. I've only owned Merc's. Anything I should be aware of? Are parts/service available?

Thanks!

Re: Buying Chrysler Outboard...

You can get almost anything you need. It is a nice engine but is rated 90 at the powerhead--be aware that it will not perform as fast as a Merc or an OMC 90.

On the other hand, It is a dirt simple engine, easy to repair and maintain, and easy to set up initially.

Just do not set the carbs too lean at idle. This will definitely cause detonation and melted pistons at or near full throttle. Generally 3/4 to 7/8 turn out from lightly seated will be safe on the low speed needles.

Thanks a million for the advice! Is there a way to tell if it's been run too lean and has the damage you described?

Won't run or may run poorly and will have no compression on one or more cylinders (20 PSI or less).
