I was looking on ebay to buy a new Lowrance HDS-5 GPS to save a few bucks. Not all saving is a good saving because after going to to lowrance website I found this under warranty.

Online Auctions:

"Authorized Lowrance dealers do not sell new products directly in online auctions. Purchases made through an online auction are on a "buyer beware" basis. Online auction confirmations or sales receipts are not accepted for warranty verification and Lowrance will not replace missing components from any package purchased through an online auction".

I did not know this.....

so you tell them it was a gift, don't know where it was purchased, if they ask. I've never had anyone ask for a receipt for a warranty claim.

I bought a GPS from an online store and got a great deal on it. Auctions aren't the only game in town when it comes to saving a few bucks. As always "caveat emptor"

its grey mkt, they don't have to honor warrentees.
You can go to Germany and buy a BMW at substantial savings, but to get warrentee work done you have to take it back there.
