Hey guys,

I'm new here, forums look good and i hope you can help! I'm going to look at a picton 150 gto speed boat, with a suzuki 55hp oil injected engine which hasn't been running for a few years. It hasnt been used for 6 years but was running up until 18months ago apparently. My question is, what do i look for when inspecting this??? the reason I ask is because it's a bargain of a boat and I do enjoy a nice project to work on, but i'm new to boats and engines. I'm an electrician by trade.

I figure i need to check compression of cylinders and spark from the plug, but where else can i start to prevent myself from buying a wreck. The guy mentioned that the seals on the jet impellor maybe be sticking, and that's why it may not start, but

A. i dont know what these are,
B. i cant see how the impellor would prevent the engine from running and
C. i dont know how to check them.

Are there any common faults, i.e bearings or wear i should look for.

Many thanks in advance.

Steve

Maybe some of the threads in the FAQ section will help you.

Sounds like the Seller might be saying the pump is froze and not allowing the motor to turn. You can drop the pump and see if it will turn over.
I doubt its going to start since it has sat for 18 months or longer.

Suzuki's are good motors but parts are expensive.
