Buying used boat omc 5.0

Were are looking at purchasing a used four winns boat.

Its a 94 model with the omc 5.0 and king cobra outdrive.

What do i need to look for in the outdrive that should be ok? Or the engine as well?

I hear the king cobra drives are better than the earlier years as they like to chew there self up.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I new to boats so please be easy on me.

OMC has been out of business for decades and parts are difficult to get

I would look for a boat with volvo or merc outdrive

Just seemed like it was something in my price range and looked decent for a first boat.

stay away from anything with ford power or anything that says OMC

I believe that impellers have been discontinued for king cobra and next to impossible to get.

They are actually available again for the cone clutch King Cobra. The drive on this particular boat is a dog clutch Cobra and is likely a 93 model. A true 94 OMC is actually a Volvo SX but you can tell from the pictures that it is a 93 drive.

The seller says it is clean. It is FAR from clean.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up! Ive told the owner im no longer interested!
Ive found a newer boat with the 5.7 mercruiser setup. Hes more local so i might ride and see him this evening.
