The last 2 times went out the warning buzzer sounded a constant tone until I stopped the boat to an idle for a min or 2. The boat will run for about 5 - 10 min at cruising speed and it happens again.when trolling along at harbor speeds it NEVER happens.any clues or starting points would be appreciated.

That steady horn sounding on your engine indicates that it is either overheating or has a fuel restriction. You will need to determine which.<br /><br />(VRO Horn Warnings)<br />(J. Reeves)<br /> <br />1 - A steady constant beep = Overheating - The V/6 engines, possibly some others, have a fuel restriction warning which is also a steady constant beep.<br />2 - A beep every 20 or 40 seconds = oil level has dropped to 1/4 tank. (Late model engine = Every 40 seconds)<br />3 - A beep every other second = VRO failure, air leak in oil line, oil restriction, (anything that would result in a lack of oil being supplied to the engine).<br /> <br />NOTE - If the warning horn is the black plastic (overpriced) three wire type horn, the warning horn should beep once when the ignition key is turned to the ON position. If it does not, it is either faulty or someone has disconnected it (a stupid move!). At any rate, if it does not beep which indicates that the horn is non functional, find out why and do not run the engine until the problem is corrected.

Thanks Joe, I suppose its a fuel restriction because my temp gauge reads about 120.What concerns me is that the engine doesnt seem to have a restriction unless its not noticeable at 3800 rpm's.runs smooth!is it possible the fuel pump is going and it cant supply the fuel at high rpms?

The sensor, luckily, will "see" the low fuel pressure before the pistons do. Thats its job.

Joe, have you listed all of the beep codes? Should I print your list and laminate it? Or, if I were to sneak a peek into my owners manual (when nobody was looking, of course) would I find a guide to beeps? I'm asking because it is onboard, thirty miles away and I'm really forgetful -- it could be years before I remember to look and then I'll have forgotten why...<br /><br />Meanwhile, it could start beeping and I could find myself without a guide to same -- just like most PC owners and their PowerOnSelfTest codes!

If there's another beep code besides what I've listed above, I have no knowledge of it.
