Here's yet another stupid new boat owner question. Does the buzzer on my OMC controller indicate an overheating issue or a flow issue?

Last week I went to the lake and got into some lake weeds. The buzzer went off a couple times, so I knew there was a circulation issue (the stream was not as strong as usual) so I took it to shore. When I got home, back flushed it and it was fine.

Went to the same lake today. After about 10 minutes, buzzer went off again and I got really mad, until I tilted up the motor and notice another big blob of lake grass and muck all around the lower unit. I cleaned it off, and the motor ran fine with no problems or buzzer for the next two hours (most of those pulling a tube). Please note, I'm now staying away from the beach area where I picked up the lake weeds the last two times out...

Is this a warning buzzer to let you know your intake is clogged, a overheating problem, or a sign of larger problems? Is it common to suck up lake grass, etc and have this buzzer go off?

Any and all help is appreciated. Please look at my other post in Boat Restoration and Building regarding a soft spot in my floor and thoughts on repairing it. Thank you.

Yep. Its letting you know the engine is exceeding normal temps. Usually precipitated by ingestion of Hydrilla, weeds, or dirty diapers. Yuk. Your engine also has a plastic insert where the water is ingested that can be removed with two screws. Then you can inspect a little better inside the lower unit and clean the screen from the inside.

Theres a lake here in central Fl that has massive amounts of Hydrilla. I know several guys that have experienced just your scenario because of them. Just remember, the buzzer is your friend. Big time.
