Hi All,
My 5.0LX Mercuiser/Alpha 1 Gen II setup has a Corsa Captains Call system (side exhaust) installed by the previous owner. I thought it was cool when I bought it, but I'm getting tired of the constant rumble. Everyone talks about flipping the switch and having the boat run 'silent', but I don't find that to be the case. To my ear, the 2 settings are 'loud', and 'holy $#|%'. The boat has a nice rumble, with the system closed, but I find myself jealous of the boats that cruise by seemingly silently at idle.
Question 1: I assume that this is normal for a Captain's Call system? Some leakage out the side pipes is expected, so the boat is always a little louder than stock?
Question 2: To my mind, it seems as though I should be able to remove the tubing from the Corsa diverters to the side pipes, pull the power to the solenoids so it can't get 'flipped', and then cap both the side pipe thru hulls and the diverter outputs to eliminate the leakage and make it as quiet as stock again. Obviously, I would need high temp caps on the diverter side, and good double clamping on the thru hull side, but other than that, does this sound reasonable? Doing it this way would also allow the next owner to switch it back easily, preserving the value of the system for resale.
I haven't been able to find suitable caps yet - any ideas?
My other thought was to find some sort of insulation to plug up the side exhausts to eliminate noise leakage out them, and again, disable the diverter.
Any guidance from the group would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chad
