Bypass covers leaking

I finally found a leak that has existed for quite some time now. I thought it was coming from the carb, fuel line area on 1986 90HP V4 Evinrude.
All four of the bypass covers are leaking fuel and when I tilt the engine up it runs down underneath everything. I have had trouble starting and idling lately. Is this probably the problem. When I say leak, I mean an ounce a minute and the #1 and #3 covers are the worst.

They certainly can be causing trouble. You may be losing crankcase pressure through them.

I just took off #1 and the gasket is blown apart. I ordered the new ones. They should be here next week. Can't wait to see the difference.

Hey DJ. Is this a common problem? I'm gonna consult my manual and see if I can find these "bypass covers". I can't seem to get the idle speed on my 88spl where it needs to be lately.

Not a common problem, unless someone had them off, and didnt put them right back on.

The engine was rebuilt 2 years ago and I have been told you can rebuild the engine without taking them off. They were probably taken off and not installed correctly or the old ones used etc.
The new gaskets are here. Would Hylomar HPF gasket dressing be good for the gaskets?

I know it's been 2 years and it for sure won't do you any good but I would be sure to gripe at the guy who rebuilt your motor. No way those covers should come loose if he properly torqued his bolts. Makes you wonder what will be the next thing to come loose.
