Can you bypass the vapor pump assembly on a 98 evinrude 115? I converted the VRO system to straight mix with a fuel pump, well my son in law broke off one of the nipples from it. Crazy this small thing is $163

long shot... you know what ? That "vapor pump" pretty much looks like a regular omc suare "fuel pump" ... but yours is used to suck vapors.

on a fuel pump version the cover & nipple top layers are 2 parts while
yours has a molded nipple as part of the top layer of the assembly

not saying it would work but check out a cheap chineese pump for $20 and the top layer may fit on the body of your "vapor pump"

even an unmodified OMC square fuel pump may work if you modified the base gasket only because I see the "pulse hole" is off-set from center on yours whereas it is centered on a fuel pump..

Widening the rear gasket "pulse hole" to "reach" the off centered pulse port would allow pulsing to reach the diaphragm. The "regular fuel pump" would then pump " vapors" instead of fuel .

it may work :) if not well back to your question !

I agree with Crosbyman. It may work, however, a working vapor pump does provide some pumping action that aids the VRO pump. The question is whether your new straight fuel pump needs that assistance?

If I were you, my S-I-L would be out of the will.

Another thought. I believe the crankcase vacuum/pulse used to drive the VRO pump goes thru a pulse limiter.

You might want to replace that with a thru fitting to give more vacuum/pulse to the new fuel pump. I would research the fitting on other motors that use your new fuel pump, and see what they use.

He seems to have gone pre-mix & I figured the pulse if from the crankcase directly so can't say if it would be an issue. Anyway just a suggestion to save 163U$ ...$200+ for us in Canada :-(
