I have a 1994 C55 with a side mount remote control. My question is regarding the neutral safety switch that is located under the motor cowling. It is defective and was removed from its bracket and taped shut by a previous owner. The neutral safety switch that is in the control box works properly. Is the engine mounted switch there in case the motor was tiller steered instead of remote? Can I just permanently remove the switch that is on the engine?

No good reason not too. Remember to hook up the wires though.
