I just noticed with my new registration from DMV there is a CO warning label (2) which the paperworks states is required to be placed on the transom and in view of the operator, haven't seen this before, wondering if anyone has been cited or questioned on this while operating their boat

I have not seen or herd of anyone being sited yet. The Sticker came out last year and make no since for most boats. If you have underwater Exhaust then how is the CO2 going to make it into the boat. It a result of California Nuts hanging on to the swim platform or a bar right behing the boat on boats with dry pipes. Maybe they should be elminated from the jean pool.

I suspects it like anything else if you get stop for a viloation and they inspect the boat then that will get add.

When Coast Guard tows you in they will do a complete inspection. We were boarded about 5 years ago out to sea by the coast guard and they did a complete inspection and they went down a big inspection list. However this was before the new label was required. I can see it on a boat with above the water exhaust where exhaust can be blown into the boat or someone wake boarding right behind the boat could be affected but not on boat with exhaust 3 feet below the water.

I know that back in the day (say 8 years ago) Lake Perris was a training spot. All the new officers went there and they would cite people for every single technical violation they could find. They even had the hand held noise meters on the patrol boats to cite you if your boat was too loud.

It is a requirement to have the decal on your boat. It you have the bad luck of running across some guy on training or an officer having a bad day, your probably gonna get a cite.

Really strikes me as intrusive on a private boat

Wow, California has really got stupid with things. No BBQ grills, chemicals known to cause cancer... but only in California, and warning labels! Do they come in Spanish? Ebonics? Talk about big brother, or in this case big mother.

As for CO, I will say it is nasty stuff. Even though you might have under water exhaust, that gas will still bubble up to the surface. Hang around the rear of a running boat and it WILL get you sick. When the boat is under way, it is not a problem since you are leaving it behind you. More than just a few have had close calls due to CO, but most were either in the rear of a stationary running boat or those teak riders who grab the swim platform.

Even with that said, this sticker is one of the most moronic things I have seen from your state. What next? A sticker on the boat saying that water around your boat could drown you?

Oh yea, nuts are everywhere. You should see them in Florida. :D

I had my boat inspected by the Aux Coast Guard who said that it was "recommended" to affix the decal but not "mandatory" to do it.

Once again I will state;
These people are or need to be spending too much time at downtown corner bus stops. Then let'm complain about the air we're breathing. But we all know that will never happen!

That could be true, but on the back of the stickers it claims to be mandatory.

Just their way of addressing those who think it's okay to sit on the swim platform while the engine is running. My new boat came equip'd from the factory with the helm and transom CO warnings labels already attached. So, it appears the manufacturers are aware of this new law and it may get pushed nationally sometime soon.
