Hi to all,
So om the grand opening day my wife and i went to check out Cabella's ...we were already familiar with this big outdoor activities stores after driving like 4 times nearly 300 Km to the nearest "big" store...Bass Pro Shopps in Airdrie Alberta near Calgary (Canada) .Well we kinda expected "a la BPS" type a store but they are not even close...they may not even be a match for our local Canadian outdoor store named Wholesale Sports...and that is only a maybe...(we got two of those in town:p) and all i can tell you that my wife and i left some serious cash in there...4 G Loomis rods,5 St. Croix rods...,5 Shimano reels,3 Abu Carcia reels, 2 Abu Garcia rods, 1 Humminbird sonar, God...the list is nearly endless...btw did i mention that all this was purchased in the last 10 months...or so.Anyways it is kinda nice to have a big "name" store but at "only" 70.000 sq. feet in comparison to BPS (Airdrie location) at 150.000 sq feet it does feel small., tomorrow i'll be going to meet Mariko Izumi...:p:p:p...the wife knows how i feel about Mariko...so she'l be keeping a close eye on me...:D. So in the end ...yes the store is nice but not huge or even big...we will still be driving to Bass Pro Shopps nearly 300 Km away for the "real" outdoor store, we waited for months for Cabella's to open and...:(:rolleyes

Our Cabelas is 165,000 sq ft

Pretty much know what I want before I get there, so usually just shop online.

I feel your pain DanMC, I'm about 400km again north of you...(Grande Prairie) and the first time I hit the BPS at CrossIron Mills, I almost died...that place is larger than the Canadian Tire up here!

Feek your pain when the BPS opened in Rossford it was a big dissapointment, had been to the one in Charlette, NC which was more like the Cabela's in Dundee, Mich needless to say I drive the extra 30 miles to Cabela's.

Unfortunately you are missing out on the full Cabelas experience. The alberta store seems to be half the size of most stores, and the Cabelas near me is over 250,000sq.ft.

Cabela's could send me less catalogs and lower their prices ;) I do enjoy their stores, especially at Christmas time :D

They may not be as big, but at least the one here in the Dallas area has BPS beat hands down for the helpfulness/friendliness of the staff. It's also a whole lot easier to order anything they have online and have it shipped FREE to the store. BPS makes you use the phone. I've also had them match prices with Academy and BPS basically just on my say-so, they didn't ask for a copy of the ad or make me wait while they looked online or anything.

My wife and I have spents HOURS in the Bargain Cave since they opened in Allen. I think she actually enjoyed it more than me!

They both have their pros and cons, but I tend to spend more where I think they actually appreciate my business and don't just expect my business 'cuz they're the big boy in town.

Hi to all,
So yesterday my 9 mo old pregnant wife and i went again to Cabella's to see Mariko Izumi...wow she's good looking:p. Anyways we got her to authograph a book and one of her pictures endorsed by WFN. She even agreed to have a picture taken with the three of us, before we left she gave us a white ball cap with WFN logo on it, we did chat a bit about one of the WFN episodes when she was down in the Bahamas (i think...) and was wearing these unusual white helmets whille walking at the bottom of the ocean...and she's like : did you see how funny i looked with the helmet on...:D.
Back to Cabella's ...it is nice but i was thought the too like BPS will have boats,motors...parking lot full of them,a lot more taxidermied animals...live fish...and a bigger selection in fishing. They seem to cater more to hunting and clothing ,especially camo type. A funny thing ,my wife picked up a Fall catalogue that on the cover said hunting,fishing,etc...i looked page by page and nothing on fishing....tonns of pages on knifes and rifles but the only thing that came close to have something on boating was a camo outboard cover, that's it :(. I'm not saying that we won't be going there again but their selection on fishing or boat accesories is too small...it will disapoint most unless you go there for hunting or trying to make yourself look like you're heading to Afganistan:rolleyes:.
Thank you Cabella's for beeing in Edmonton but dissapointed by the size and again dismall fishing gear sellection...:(.

:eek:Thanks for the laugh! As for Cabelas, though, I really think BPS is the place to go for boating/fishing. If you mainly hunt or camp, Cabelas is the place.
