Cabin Surround and Shrinkage

I have a Bayliner Classic with a custom canvas and vinyl window cabin surround and bow cover. On a few of my side covers for the cabin, the covers have shrunk to the point where I can not snap them to the boat. There is about 1/2" to 1 inch of shrinkage at some locations on the cover. This is probably due to the sun shrinking the vinyl windows in the cover. Is there a trick to stretching these back out so they fit again? Would soaking them in cold water help them stretch?

Is there a frame like a bimini top metal frame ????

I have seen people take apart frames and cut an inch out of the tubing on both sides.

Actually...the soaking thing was the first thing that I thought of.

Get it good and wet...try to get it to snap...and wait?

Good luck!

Hello Weiser..

Bud.. ( bad joke :) ) .. cold water will not help stretch izenglass .. put as many snaps into place as you can..let bake out in the sun to see if it will soften up your glass so you can pull it some more. I have the same problem sometimes here in MI after winter storage.. putting up the canvas can be a real PITA.

After that..might want to try some canvas conditioner. Ill try to check the canvas shop next door and see what they use.

I've made snap extenders with an inch or so of fabric,+ a couple of snaps....
