Cabin Wood Refinishing?

I'm not sure if we have a lot of cabin cruiser owners here, but I am looking to re-oil the wood down below. I know I can strip it, varnish or cetol and call it done, but I'm thinking about grabbing some oil and going that route. Does anyone have suggestions and photos?

As far as the cabin wood, I believe it is teak, solid for the trim, and veneer for the flat panels.

If it is unfinished teak then teak oil or boiled linseed oil will bring the wood back to life. See if you can find some teak oil and try a small spot in an area that you can hide if you don't get the results you like.

Ditto^^^^^^

Make sure someone didn't decide to poly or varnish over it. Provided it's teak, then just some teak oil should do fine. They make a teak cleaner, however unless the teak is grey (obviously since your's doesn't see the sun it's not), then just some teak oil will do wonders. It will be significantly less time and effort and look fantastic.

I will have to grab some decent oil and see what it will do. I'm unsure what the previous owner(s) might have done, so I guess a test spot is in order. A full sand and finish might happen, but that would be last resort, as it is avery labor intensive.

Grabbed some teak oil tonight and did around the steps and the space below the aft cabin. It looks 1000 times better! I'm very happy and will make sure to get some before and afters!

Sort of a Before:

Hard to see, but it makes a big difference. Especially in the areas where the wood was starving for oil. I will say this, it is far from difficult work, but very time consuming. I'm still not done and have a couple hours into it. It's relaxing work, but with the near 100 degree heat and humidity we have had, man do I sweat!!!

So youre saying that if the teak is gray, it needs more done to it? I should do something else before I put the oil on it? My swim platform needs it, but the wood is light gray right now....how the heck do you clean it?

Grey teak should be sanded to bring the color and smoothness back then the oil will bring the true tone out.
