I have a 1988 Lowe 25' pontoon boat that I bought used and have no owners manual. I was wondering if anyone had the factory wiring diagram and cable routing diagram? Thanks again

unlike cars, where a good manual comes along, boat manuals are a 4-page brochure pointing out the seating, carpet, and other items like which end has the propeller. best your going to find is the engine manual which would have a wiring diagram. (links in the stickies). the wiring routing in your pontoon would vary by assembly person to assembly person in the plant 29 years ago

I was afraid of that. I also was given a 100 hp golden meteor that appears to be in better shape than a 75 hp striker so I plan on putting the 100 hp on the steering cable set up uses a pivot mount that holds he outside of the cable and when I mounted the 100 hp and set the steering cable up it seemed to work well and the throttle cable worked well where I ran it and as you know it is electric shift it shifted well so I guess I will install everything where it was when I tested it and hope for the best. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Scott is correct. Boats don't come with such info and there are not many sources that can provide that information either. I would run a new harness in the same places as the old harness. A good idea is to attach some type of string or rope on one end and pull the old harness out and then put the new harness back in. JMHO

make sure your transom is rated for the larger motor, especially on a 30 year old 'toon. plenty of topic threads on iBoats about pontoon motors and pods dropping in the water only to be hanging by shift and steering cables because the pod either broke off the boat or the transom broke off the pod.

The decking is off the boat due to soft spots in the decking so running the cables and harness will be open to improvements as I go. As far as a new harness I would have to make it as I do not think one was available a couple months ago. While I was repairing the structure and the decking I went ahead and beefed the transom up and added aluminum channel cross members to support the extra weight. I also added two safety cables just for grins. The original harness was not present when I acquired the boat so it left some doubt about where to run it. I also have the aluminum sheet metal to cover the underside of the cross members between the logs. .

Okay I do understand better now. With the flooring removed, running a new wiring harness will be a breeze. But I would run the cabling through a pipe so that if you even have to remove it in the future, you won't have any issue. You can build a new harness using the proper colored marine grade wires that are available everywhere on the net. Use the proper colors and gauges and make your own. Not really hard to do but do use marine grade wires because there are tinned stranded wires and will help keep corrosion from happening. JMHO

Yes, 16ga wire is about 14--16 dollars for 100 ft spool. In amazon, I use Lawrence Marine Products.
Iboats also has 50' spools for 11 dollars.
Also google for marine wire and look for Gregsmarine wire supply or Genuinedealz.
