Cable Extender for Battery Charger

I installed a battery charger for my trolling motor awhile back and was planning on hooking it up to my starting battery as well. I purchased the 15' cable extenders made by ProMariner. Well, I should have checked first. The extended cables are not long enough to reach to the back of my pontoon boat, which is where the starting motor battery is. Would I be just as well off to go out and buy some 10 ga wire and wire an in-line fuse to use that in place of the cable extender that I bought? I was thinking about contacting ProMariner and see if they could make a custom built cable extender, but the 15' that I bought was kind of pricy. Any suggestions? Thanks

The only thing special about the cable extenders are the connectors. You can make up your own extenders if you want, I did. 10 ga is fine if you have the 20 amp ProMariner.

Re: Cable Extender for Battery Charger

I tried the same thing with my Pro Mariner charger, I wanted to extend the cables from one side of the boat to the other, made cables from 10 gauge wire with heavy duty connectors and for some reason the charger wouldnt charge that battery i extended to .Once I removed the extension cables it worked, so there is something about the manufacturers cables that need to be used at least in my case.
