I just got a new (new to me ) 14.4 foot hoursten glascraft with a 69 merc 500 thunderbolt. The steering cable it completley seized and the shifter cable is really hard to move. How would go about lubing them back up? Will i have to just buy new ones?

Re: Cable Greasing

Cables are a Non-Servicable item,......

Replacement is your Only Option...........

For your Steering,..... The Helm,+ Cable package is the Way to Go,.....
The Whole Thing is only a couple dollars more than Just the Cable...........

Re: Cable Greasing

And don't try forcing "working them loose" because the steering helm and shifter control box can get parts bent/damaged on the inside. Just not worth it.

Also, I have read about people buying used steering cables/helms from e-bay. Not a good idea, many times they are corroded and you just wasted your money.

With steering and shifters, the best thing to do is buy new parts. With regular cleaning and maint, you will never have to buy new ones again.
