Not necessarily true. My local OMC guru has a nifty little hand pump that you can slip a hose over the end of the cable and pump lubricants into the cable. This of course only helps if the cable way is dry, not worn out. I use the pump on my 32 y/o OMC shift and throttle cable and they work like greazzzzzed lightning now. The pump had a little pressure guage on it so you could watch the pressure dissipate as the lube was forced into the cableway.
