Cable/pulley steering question....

OK....just replaced the cable on my old Evinrude, a job that went fairly smoothly thanks in large part to Spinnerbait and tashasdaddy's FAQ on the subject.

But I have one question. My motor has two mounting points for the pulley "horn"/whatever that connects the motor and the pulleys.

As of now, it's attached with the rear hole. Would it make any difference using the front mounting hole?

A pic of this is below:

So, any advantage to using the front hole or does it really matter at all?

Thx!

Re: Cable/pulley steering question....

looks to me like if you uses the front hole, the metal plate would jam against the motor bracket on a turn. if it works, leave it be.

(US Government motto: If it ain't broke, fix it until it is)

I might also flip those pulleys over, even if you have springs holding them tight; hate for one to loosen and drop off.

I have cable steering on an old whaler. I was told that it was phased out because it's dangerous; if there is a failure, your motor may swing hard to one side with no warning. I'm not saying don't use cable steering; just be mindful of that, and inspect your rig often.
