Cable sheath...can I cut it open?

Going through a '77 115Johnny right now, and the battery cables are corroded...so I want to replace them. They run from the battery compartment to the outboard inside of the rubber sheath along with the rest of the cables/wires. My question is, how do I get the old cables out of the sheath, and the new cables into the sheath? I'm guessing I need to cut that sheath open, but I have no idea where to get a new sheath if I do that.

Anybody have any insight? And does anybody know if I just set a record for using the word "sheath" 5 times in one post?

Thanks,
Hunter

We used to cut the sheath open, fix the wires and then use electrical tape to reseal it.
