How do you guys feel about cable steering? It was suggested that I upgrade to rack and pinion, but I feel like it's unecessary if the everything is working. Do the cable systems tend to break if there old, or do they hold up with time?

Re: Cable Steering question

You will hear people favoring both. I prefer the more modern style. Search ebay for 'rack steering convert' and you will see some cheap.

You can also buy brand new right here on iboats.com.

Good luck

Re: Cable Steering question

While My Primary boat uses a Single Cable, rotary helm Steering,.......
And I've run Alot of boats with Single Cable, Rack,+ pinion helm Steering,.......
And Everyone considers the Hyd. helm Steering to be the Ultimate,.............

Between Many,+ Most of the Racing Boats in the World use the Two Cable, Pulleys,+ Wrap Helm Steering,...........;)

As with Everything-else involved with Boating,........
Longevity is determined by Proper Preventive Maintance........... Or Lack there of,..........;)
