I am restoring a boat with cable steering and I would like to keep it close to original. In replacing the cable, is it easier to lay the cable out and start in the middle (drum) or, at one end?

Start in the middle where the drum is. The other ends are where the locks will go.

agree middle, almost impossible to do it anyother way. remember to leave enough area on both sides of the drum to take up cable when turning the wheel.

Re: Cable steering

One suggestion, before you launch,be sure the engine turn the correct way,as a young boater I had a BAD experience due to wrapping the opposite way
