I need to replace my wench on my trailer.
I have a '99 Sea Ray 190 Bow Rider, 3,000 lbs. dry weight, add another 600 lbs for fuel, ect. for a 3,600 lbs total.
EZ Loader trailer, with bunks, not rollers.
Used primarily in fresh water, but occasionally put it in salt.
Currently have a cable type wench that is starting to fray a bit, and the locking mechanism is starting to go, so I want to replace the whole thing.
My question is should I go with a strap type wench, or a cable. I like the idea of a strap, but I am not sure about the pro's and con's of each.
Also, what is the minimum load rating I am looking for? Is it the total weight of the boat = fuel/accessories? less? more? Since the cost difference is not much, I am planning on buying one with A LOT more load rating than required, but am not sure of the "base number".
Any first hand experience or recommendations?
Thanks,
Erik
