I opened up the motor when rewiring the system and it was a mess. Wires crumbling and scorch marks around the motor. Thought about replacing the motor but Calco replacements are almost non-existant and too pricey. Don't have the funds to go CNC route. What options are there? Electric motor rebuilders? Is there a way to swap to Prestolite - there seem to be more (and cheaper) of these units.

Jamie White

I ran into the same problem, and I now have a solution. I found a patented adapter which will allow the Calco pump to be used with the ARCO 6206 (or 6220 if you're set up for 2-wire) motor. The adapter is machined from solid aluminum with a steel shaft. It works beautifully, and allows the use of the low-cost, modern, high-efficiency motors with the older Calco pumps. They also have an adapter for the Prestolite units. Here are a couple of pictures of a Calco unit installed:

Hi.

I am planning on buying one of these adapters and thanks for the info.

Question. Originally the motor had a long shaft going to the bottom of the housing to turn the pump. when you add the adapter, are you just using the old motor and shaft still?

I am little confused on what the components needed for this.
