Calibrating Power Trim Gauge

I recently replaced the sending unit for the power trim gauge on my '94 Johnson 150 (didn't work when I purchased boat) The gauge works now but the needle doesn't bottom out when the motor does. I tried pushing down the lever all the way on the sending unit with my fingers and the gauge still doesn't bottom out.

Is there any way to calibrate the gauge?

Thanks in advance.

Isn't there a slotted screw hole in the sending unit that allows it to be rotated just a little bit? Doesn't take much

The gauge.... Grounding the sensor "S" terminal should peg the gauge needle up. If so, the gauge is okay.

Moving the sender lever with your finger to its limits should peg the gauge. What you've said indicates a faulty sender unit.

I was wondering if that was the case (faulty sending unit. I guess I should check the sending unit with my ohmmeter as laid out in the manual. In hind sight I should have checked it BEFORE installing it!

yes you should have checked with ohm meter. what is the most probable cause is a broken wire from the motor being raised and lowered. the break will be next to the wire harness and motor.
javsam
