Calling all Johnson 8hp owners. Prop question. Solve my problem

I have an 85 Johnson 8hp that I havent been able to figure out why it wont plane out my 12' aluminum. I pulled the prop today and found a 175092. 8.6 x 5.5

This crosses to an 80-83 4 or 4.5. I would imagine this prop is way too small for my 8hp.

I would like to know what others have on their 8hp johnsons.

you need an 8.5x9. same prop as the 6 hp.

You may be asking this little motor to perform more than it is capable of doing. How much is the boat loaded down?

8.6x5.5 is not enough prop for that motor to be used as intended from the factory, and is a good way to over-rev and turn it into a parts motor. the 8.5x9 was used for many years on the 6 and 8 hps.
