Hiya Roscoe - My life never changes much. Hair color and less of it a little each day, but nothing drastic. :) I was shopping for a new prop last night and ended up here. Looked around a bit and seen alot of old faces. Thought I'd drop in and at least say hello.

Re: Calling Miloman, Derwood...

Hello everyone, I hope all are doing well. It is nice to be back and see a lot of you still around. We have had some changes at work and these have put a lot of stress into my life. I am one of 5 original people here at work still. The company is still 130 people, but is not the same as when I started.

Sometimes a new president will do that. My manager is in the process of being setup to be fired even though she is probably the most competent best manager I have ever had. I took the attitude that I would do a great job as always and would outlast the managment change. It looks like it will not happen. This is my second manager that is being setup. The other is no longer with the company.

On good notes, my Brother-in-law made it out of Iraq Alive and is back with his family

At the end of June, my wife's family and I will be renting 3 houseboats on Rainy lake in Minnesota/Canada. I have all my gear ready to go and hope to catch a lot of fish. Even if I catch nothing, it will still be relaxing. I just hope my job and my manager are still here when I return.

I have not had my boat in the water for almost a year and have only been ice fishing once since then. Although I have to say doing 70MPH on a snowmobile is a real kick. Everything has been too busy.

I will check in as I can. I have a few times, but have not had to the time to post more than once. Everybody have a great weekend. -Scoop

Re: Calling Miloman, Derwood...

Just to let all know I'm still here, check in often to see what others say but as always I'm kinda quite. To quote Kahlil Gibran, "A man begins to speak when he is no longer at ease with his thoughts". You all continue to give me thoughts that keep me at ease so I say less than most.

And where is Ebb? Long time no hear.

Schematic personally helped me with a project that was dear to my family -- converting VHS tapes to DVDs. Brilliant and generous. Hope he and his are well.

For those who didn't know Underwood, the shoafin priest, here is a sample of his wisdom from an old thread which was a dialogue between gonfishn, Peterfishbuster, 495v, Sloopy, peterfishbuster, crabbait, 12footer and derwood (aka storywood, deflatedwood, sludgewood, acewood, and now missinwood:

Author Topic: What is a shoaFINpriest
gonfishn
Admiral
Member # 9661 posted July 12, 2002 01:01 PM

I have looked into the dictionary and every religion know to man and still can't find what a shoaFINpriest is. Is this a new following and how can I join (or maybe not). If Derwood is the leader can you imagine what kind of following he has.
After his sermon when the offering is passed ,do you give him money, fishing lures,or just some plain luck. I know as far as entertainment goes he sure knows how to stir things up.

Should we join?

--------------------
Musky...Any Other Fin Is Just Bait

Posts: 1107 | From: The Hills | Registered: May 2002 | IP: Logged

Peterfishbuster
Captain
Member # 8498 posted July 12, 2002 02:14 PM

It is not so much a religion as a state of being. Those of us that are masters tend to stand apart from everyone else. Perhaps this is our dedication or perhaps it is the ever present smell of bait on our hands but we are one with the fishing cosmose. Derwood is by no means the leader as we do not have one as such but are masters of our own destinies. In fact Derwood has just barely attained masters status and that based soley on his choice of boat and fishing location. Even those of us that are masters are humble enough to admit that we still have a lot to learn and humbly accapt advice and knowledge from others.
Now on to the offerings if you so choose to you may perhaps gain unmeasurable blessings from a master by giving him (or her) all sorts of lure or tackle but make sure it is top quality gear and not from the cheap bins.

--------------------
I fish therfore I am. Truly one can only learn from his-her own mistakes (just ask the guy with the bomer-long-A in his balls ). The shoafin masters can only politely guide others with subtle suggestion.

Shoafin masters hold the scars from many battles (the whole reason for the developement of "bounceing monkey style gung fu"). Some won...Some lost. All are a gift of knowlage. In that alone is a Shoafin master Born.(a quick joke from Crabbait dose'nt hurt either....that is how it all got started anyway)

A Shoafin monks title is not given, there is no party thrown, or certificate on the wall, only knowlage and fond memories of battles won, make a monk see himself for what he is.

A shoafin fishing monk is hummble (except with his sons and daughters...old bull-young bull-yin-yang zen type of gimmic).

Quiet ("drunkin master style gung fu" is altered by each beer and subject to change with the indivedual monk).

Polite (see "hidden dragon style gung fu").

And gentle (big hammers on broken boat motors are one exception).

When he wins a battle he can be heard for a mile.

When he loses he can be heard for two.

He is known to be a doscile creature.....BUT

Steal his spot, lose his favorite lure, drive a water roach over his line or simply **** in the wind while he is standing behind you and you may encounter the shoafin fighting style known as the "Hidden Dragon"

The shoafin priest belives in "knowledge is power" and is always learning. A socialable clan are we,(especialy after a six pack) Always helping other monks with strategy and style, never being to proud to be helped.

Nature is our temple, we need no building to practice our faith (an ocasional porta pot gets a blessing). We live in harmony with all of gods creatures (except the ocasonial spartan battle with the spouse over fishing funds).

We own little or nothing but our boats, poles and tackle (we morgaged our homes for our boats and sold our lawnmowers for bait....except me....i parted my lawnmower out for the steering wheel on my boat!)

We don't ask for much, but donations are accepted.(donated bait money could save a marriage....free beer can get you boat parts, secret spots and all kinds of good gung fu).

If it is important for you to know weather you have reached shoafin master status here is the test.....when you are fishing on the bottom and catching fish, and you turn around and see that the ten other fishermen fishing with a bobber, that have been stareing at you for an hour, have all switched to a bottom rig and you are still the only one catchen fish.......congradulations.....you are now a Shoafin Master fishing monk.

derwood.

--------------------
Zen fishing.....be one with the lure.
