I have to replace my 1988 Ford 302 engine. Could I use a remanufactured 302 Ford Truck engine. It seems the general concensis is you can use a Chevy Truck engine as replacement for a Chevy marine engine. I can get a 1975 Ford Truck 302 engine from Autozone for $950 - 3 year warranty, brass core plugs. This will be used fresh water only. What do you think? Are there any changes around the mid 80's like Chevy's I need to worry about (1 pc rear main seal vs 2 pc.) Thanks.

What are you replacing it in. A '75 engine would have flat tappet hydraulic cam and the '88 engine would have roller cam and lifters.(better) Otherwise a truck engine would not be far from marine, in terms of camshaft specs. I would want to know what the compression ratio is on the reman as well.

Re: calling on Ford guys.......... again

Thanks Boomyal.
The engine I'm replacing is a 1988 Pleasurecraft Ford 302 4V. 220 HP. It's in a twin screw 28' Baha Cruiser. Straight inboards.
The firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.
From my Pleasurecraft manual it has hydraulic lifters.
From what I've research, Ford changed the timing order on the 302 to the 1-3-7 etc. but I'm not sure when, and they changed to a single piece rear main seal, again I'm not sure when. Do you know when these changes were made?
I'll find out the compression ratio on the reman and post it later.

Firing order changed late '70's early '80's.

1 pc rear main seal was introduced early '80's, but 2 pc was also still in production until mid '80's.

When you find a block, post the #. I should be able to narrow down the details.

Re: calling on Ford guys.......... again

The reason for the firing order change on 302's was the camshaft Ford installed to meet Mercruiser specs.
The cam is from a 351 Windsor engine. Normally the firing order is cast into the intake manifold. If you look at yours, the cast firing order was ground off and the new (351) firing order was stamped in.

Got the engine pulled tonight but could get the numbers. Will have to get them tomorrow when I get it on the engine stand and can roll it over. Thanks again.

dunaruna, finally got the block numbers off my old block. Waited for my brother that came in today after a 3 week "holiday" to your land. Spent a week in "Melbin" and "Cars", a week in New Zealand and a week in Fiji. Beautiful was his words.
Anyways back to my numbers. Do these sound right?
Block = E7TE CA Crank = 2MAE.
Thanks.

Re: calling on Ford guys.......... again

The E7TE ran from '87 to '93. The 2MAE crank could be either 1 pc or 2 pc seal. The 2 pc had a rear flange at the rear main journal, the 1 pc did not have the flange.

I'm going by memory on the flange info, couldn't find any specific literature on the subject, maybe boomyal could add to this............

Mebin is where I'm at, but I don't know 'cars', any more info?

Thanks Dunaruna, I think "cars" should have been "cans". Typo.

Boomyal or Dunaruna, do almost all mid 80's 302 blocks have the dipstick in the block, on the driver's side, near the back?
Thanks
