Re: Cam ID and selection truck vs. Marine
Done a lot research on this and I mean a lot. First for you specs. Get yourself clymer manual from the local marine parts store for your year and motor. Looking at one of my old ones I think you have .260 intake and .273 exhaust lift at the cam you didn't give year and model. Pretty lame if you ask me. Get on-line with crane cams and do some reading. I just installed a Power max cam in my boat. I am sure I went a little more radical then you want to go (.467/.494) but I used the Power max for another reason. It is a duel plane cam. Meaning it opens the exhaust more then it dose the intake allowing a exhaust restricted motor to breathe better. I have to tell you I have done everything possible to build the best motor possible. Just as a example I paid more then a hundred bucks for special length push rods and over $800.00 on a flywheel (real special and rare) so I am not afraid to put out the cash if it works (may take awhile to get the money together). This cam is the best buy I have made. Don't panic they are only about $50.00 more then the run of the mill cam and lifter set. Power and torque throughout the power band with a great idle. Unless you are running top of the line exhaust you have exhaust restriction and boat manifolds are real bad. Give us a little more on what it is going in and how it will be run and I will see what I can come up with.
