Help!! I Tilted my 1972 Evinrude 25 HP (25203R) engine last night only to hear something fall forward inside the cowl. (rattle rattle). I've identified it as the Cam, lockout lever from the exploded parts diagram on the BRP website but the diagram only shows one screw holding it although there are two holes in the plate. (only one screw found under the cowling as well). Does this mount facing down or up? Either way I checked what it would "interact" with when the throttle is opened and I can't see anything?? This engine has been converted from tiller to forward control but retains the rope start.

Can anybody shed some light on this part? Do I need it considering the conversion?

Hoping to go fishing this weekend!!

What this thing is for is to keep you from over reving the engine in neutral. It will hit a mechanical stop when the engine is in neutral. Two screws hold it in place.

Once the engine is shifted into forward or reverse, the mechanical stop moves to allow the cam to pass. I would consider keeping it in place. Whether the engine is tiller control or remote has bearing on if it should be there or not......should be there.

OBJ, thanks for your help. I'd found the two holes that I thought it fitted in but couldn't see what it actually would hit on at any stage. Does the right angle on the piece point up or down? I have a parts manual on cd but unfortunately it's not much good.
