I'm doing a link and sync and referencing both the SELOC Repair Manual and the OMC Service Manual for my motor. When I got to the part about adjusting the cam pickup point the books tell me to loosen the expansion lock ring and then turn the adjustment knob counterclockwise until the internal spring tension is relaxed. Then do the adjustment.
I did that and I adjusted the cam pickup point and tightened the cam follower screw to hold the cam follower in place. I'm fine with that adjustment but neither of these books tell me to do anything with the adjustment knob that I previously turned counterclockwise to release the spring tension or the expansion lock for this knob. I didn't expect that so I didn't pay much attention to how the adjustment knob sat before I loosened it.
So I'm not sure how what the heck to set the adjustment knob back to. Obviously the expansion lock holds it in place, that's easy, but it seems the sync and link instructions would state how to adjust the adjustment knob back into place but it says nothing. I can make it super tight or super loose or somewhere in between so I'm not real sure what adjustment it needs.
What the heck? I can't believe these books are so thorough but then leave out such an easy detail.
Thanks in advance.
