Cam selection

I am putting a 302 motor into a 16ft boat, would a camshaft for higher rpm work or would a cam for torque still be required. The power to weight ratio should be good so the hole shot should not be a problem, just looking for higher top speed.
Please advise....

Re: Cam selection

The light weight boat might get away with a different cam but I would go with the marine cam and be happy with the low end bite and maybe a bigger prop,

Re: Cam selection

If you want more power, change the heads and intake, and leave the stock marine cam. The heads are the real restriction on Fords, not the cam. Good aftermarket heads alone are a 50hp bolt on, and you won't get that from a cam swap.

Re: Cam selection

aftermarket heads would serve two benefits, more power and less weight. But the price
I already plan on the 4bbl intake and carb and center riser/manifold setup,(which should save some weight also.

Just thought I could play with cam setups.

Thanks for your input.

The right cam will net you a few hp, the wrong cam will cost your 3k +/-

Re: Cam selection

Find some GT 40 heads...manifold ...carb..Upside the 302 done with those mods is torquey look at HO 302 ...It would probably cheaper to find a complete motor and marinze with your old motor..
